Dear Community Membership Scheme members,
Join us on Wednesday 11th March for a Knitathon at Kew Gardens.
Come take part in a mass community crafting session, learn more about Kew’s scientific work through hands on activities and help us knit the plant family tree of life.
If you’ve never knitted before you’ll learn how to finger knit, but if you’re already handy with knitting needles or crochet hooks, please feel free to bring them along (all stitches are welcome and expert knitters will be on hand to help if you get in a tangle!). All materials provided.
Led by artist Lorna Hamilton-Brown, participants will get to knit the different links that connect together the plant family tree of life.
No experience is needed to take part – all knitting can be done using your fingers only.
The knitathon runs from 10am – 4pm, please specify if you’d like to drop-in between 10am – 1pm or 1pm – 4pm when booking, as places are limited.
To bring a group to this free event, please email communitylearning@kew.org to book your place (please note this event is for adults only).
Free outreach knitting sessions: If your group is new to knitting at Kew, we have a limited number of free 90 minute outreach sessions available during February/March. This hands-on session will take place at your venue, led by Lorna Hamilton-Brown, introducing participants to Kew’s knitting programmes. All materials are provided and no experience is necessary to take part. Please contact communitylearning@kew.org for more details.
All community learning events are designed to provide access to Kew for people who would otherwise face physical, sensory, psychological or social barriers to visiting.
We look forward to welcoming you along.
