How it began:

Ubele’s 10 point Community Action Plan

Ubele launched a BAME community organisations’ report and  a 10 point community action plan at the Emergency Community Conversation panel, hosted by Ubele this past Monday, April 27th.

Ubele is calling on the government to urgently conduct an independent public inquiry into why and how BAME community are being disproportionately impacted. The #WeNeedAnswers Campaign urges the government to do more.

Emergency Community Conversation: A panel of key figures

The panel discussed the COVID-19 crisis, it’s impact on the BAME community and what actions are needed.

There were voices from a range of BAME figures nationally, with interesting perspectives on why and how this emergency is impacting us. It feels important, at this time, that we take more control of the narrative of the crisis, particularly given the disproportionate number of BAME people contracting and dying from the virus.

The Panellists were:

  • Barbara Gray, Mayoress of Lewisham
  • Charlie Brinkhurst-Cuff, gal-dem Magazine
  • Debbie Weekes-Bernard, Deputy Mayor of London for Social Integration, Social Mobility and Community Engagement
  • Deirdre Woods, London Food Board
  • Dr Elizabeth Henry, Minority Ethnic Anglican Concerns
  • Henna Shah, Charity So White
  • Ifeoma Ike, Pink Cornrows
  • Joy Warmington, BRAP
  • Karl Murray, The Ubele Initiative
  • Kunle Olulode, Voice4Change England
  • Leroy Logan MBE, Voyage Youth
  • Marion Wadibia, NAZ Project
  • Marsha de Cordova, MP Shadow Secretary of State for Women and Equalities
  • Patrick Vernon OBE, Windrush Campaigner
  • Prof Kevin Fenton, MD, PhD, FFPH, London Regional Director of PHE
  • Roger McKenzie, Unison & TUC
  • Sado Jirde, Black South West Network
  • Sarbjit Ganger, Asian Women Resource
  • Susan Cueva Kanlungan, Filipino Consortium
  • Yvonne Field, The Ubele Initiative
