Free horticultural training opportunities are available for disabled people, that can lead to a City and Guild recognised qualification.
Courses offer foundation skills and knowledge for those beginning their career in horticulture. Course objectives are designed to give learners the skills and information required to achieve either National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) level 1 or Certificate in Skills for Working for Life (horticulture) entry level 2 & 3.
The courses cover elements ranging from recognising parts of the plant, use and care of tools through to weeding, pruning and maintaining plants and grass areas.
The course is a practical one and is based at the plant centre working in the grounds. No previous experience is required but a willingness to learn new skills and a commitment to achieve the Award is essential.
